Deadwood
The Far Western of South Dakota
Deadwood lies on the far western end of South Dakota, about 40 miles from Rapid City. It’s surrounded by the scenic Black Hills, which attracted miners in search of gold during the latter half of the 19th century. It remains a very small town, with an estimated population of just over 1,270 in 2017, according to the US Census Bureau. The entire city has been designated a National Historic Landmark.  Imagine an entire city on the National Historic Register. Deadwood is a living showcase to history! All trails start in Deadwood and is a gateway to over 300 miles of the finest groomed snowmobile trails in the nation. The prestigious Mickelson Bike trail is a 110-mile spin through the Black Hills right in Deadwood.
