Black Hills National Forest

Rapid City Airport (RAP) is located 63 miles from Hot Springs an 49 miles from Custer
Chadron Airport (CDR) is 54 miles from Hot Springs and 85 miles from Custer and offers commercial flights provided by Boutique Air with service to Denver International Airport or Alliance, Nebraska. 
Denver International Airport (DIA) is 5 hours from Hot Springs and 5.5 hours from Custer. The Denver Airport is the 6th busiest airport providing domestic and international travel.

Rocky Knolls Golf Course

A beautiful 9-hole golf course in Custer offering stunning views of the Black Hills and an entertaining game for player of all levels. Course is in excellent shape and challenging. 


The Mammoth Site

The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, is an active paleontological dig site, which boasts the largest concentration of mammoth remains in the world!  The most undiscovered treasure in the Black Hills! The current mammoth count is 61, with 58 Columbian and 3 woolly mammoths it is a unique natural landmark! 


Evans Plunge 

The Evans Plunge is the oldest tourist attraction in the Black Hills. Natural Spring-fed waters maintain an average pool temperature of 87 degrees Fahrenheit year round. 5,000 gallons of water per minute flows into Evans Plunge from a thermal spring at the North end of the pool. The original Native American name for the Hot Springs area was "Minnekahta," which means "warm water."  


The VA Center

Battle Mountain Sanitarium opened in 1907, offering veterans a complete array of services including plunge baths and an amusement hall. Located in the town of Hot Springs, South Dakota, the VA Center is made from local pink sandstone and is a National Historic Landmark. A majority of the buildings predate 1930 and many of them are still used for their original purposes. A National Cemetery is located in the eastern section of this beautiful campus. 


Angostura Recreation Area

Angostura Reservoir is a water-lover's haven with breathtaking scenic views. Offering 4,407 acres of crystal clear waters, 36 miles of shoreline, and some of the finest sandy beaches in the state. The area boasts many water sports and summer fun activities - camping, boating, fishing, and swimming. 



Hot Springs Public Library

The Hot Springs Public Library has recently been named as a three star library in 2017 by the Library Journal. This rating puts Hot Springs Public Library in the top 15 libraries nationwide for its category.  The Library has become a Community Center since the doors opened to this unique and comfortable building in 2007.
Local citizens and tourists alike use the public access to computers; there is also wireless Internet access throughout the building and on the sunny patio. A variety of programs for all ages are offered year round.

Custer State Park

Custer State Park is famous for its herds of bison, elk, deer and other wildlife, scenic drives, historic sites, visitor centers, fishing lakes, resorts, campgrounds and interpretive programs. 
One of the nation’s largest state parks, just 15 miles from the towns of Custer and Hot Springs. This premier State Park boasting 71,000 acres is an absolute must see! You will be astounded.

Mount Rushmore

The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a massive sculpture located in the heart of the Black Hills. Here you’ll find the tallest peak east of the Rockies, where grasslands give way to forests of ponderosa pine and the famous Cathedral Spires. The views are absolutely breathtaking! Roughly three million people a year visit the National Memorial. 


Crazy Horse Memorial

Crazy Horse Memorial five miles north of Custer is the world's largest sculpture-in-progress, and frequent drilling and mountain blasts make each visit unique. When completed, Crazy Horse Memorial will stand 563 feet tall by 641 feet long. The project was started in 1948 at the request of Chief Henry Standing Bear who invited sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski to carve a mountain to honor the heritage, tradition and culture of North American Indians. Its namesake, Crazy Horse, was a war leader of the Oglala Lakota Tribe and a prominent leader of the Sioux and one of their greatest leaders. The memorial is truly amazing to seel

Wind Cave

Bison, elk, deer and other wildlife roam the rolling prairie grasslands and forested hillsides in of one of America's oldest national parks. Below the remnant surface sits Wind Cave, one of the longest and most complex caves in the world. Named for barometric winds at its entrance, this maze of passages is home to boxwork, a unique formation rarely found elsewhere. 



Mickelson Trail 

The George S. Mickelson Trail, in the heart of the beautiful Black Hills, was completed in September of 1998. Its gentle slopes and easy access allow people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the beauty of the Black Hills.  Much of the trail passes through National Forest Land, but there are parts of the trail that pass through privately owned land. The trail is 109 miles long and contains more than 100 converted railroad bridges and 4 rock tunnels. 

Wild Horse Sanctuary

The Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary located near Hot Springs is one of America's greatest private wilderness areas. American, Spanish, Curly, & Choctaw Mustangs all make their home at the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary. These stunning and majestic animals are a wonder to behold and a must see.
